Reuniting with a Modern Dream in the Relics of Time

If time could be photocopied, which page would you most want to keep? Some spaces are merely history to others, but to me, they are private territories woven into my entire childhood and every breath. When the hands of destiny came full circle, bringing me and my camera back to the starting point, the shock of that temporal interlacing still warms my heart today.
The photographs focuses on that English-style factory building with classical arched windows. To me, it was once the trajectory of my family’s life and the starting point of my childhood memories. The most miraculous arrangement of fate was none other than in the late 1980s, when I brought the fashion team of GA Men fashion back to this old ground. In the dormitories where I grew up, the old factory, and its surroundings, models dressed in the then-popular British yuppie attire posed before the coarse old walls and the stone steps of the small pier. This attempt to pull top-tier modernity into a private emotional structure allowed fashion to shed its cold, aloof defense and become touched by the warmth of growing up.
Decades passed in the blink of an eye, and the private cradle of yesteryear has now settled into a declared monument of Hong Kong.
This magic of time gives these images multiple layers of life's depth. The mottled red bricks and coarse stone steps not only witnessed the colonial era of Hong Kong but also gently enveloped my youthful fashion dreams. The new and the old, public history and private emotion, interweave perfectly across these pages. This visual work is an anchor I have left in the torrent of time, transformed into an understated and warm cross-temporal dialogue with the space of my upbringing and that golden age.

The Skiff, A Childhood Friend, and Our Sea

Born in Wan Chai’s Blue House, I later moved with my family to a factory dormitory on Tai Tam Road in Stanley. In this photo, my childhood friend and I sit side-by-side on a speedboat right below our home, capturing a precious memory of our youth.
